Testing Patagonia stuff : sun, rain, dirt !

Yesterday, 1h30 of mountain bike under a nice sun.
2h of bouldering, cloudy.
Today, 2h of mountain bike, raining, dirty paths, cold wind.

Tested and approved :
- Yesterday , for a nice weather, but still not too hot : the Men's wool 2 T-Shirt. For the mountain bike, just put a windstopper fleece on it (I forgot the name of my patagonia fleece for this). For bouldering, just put a R1 flash Pullover.
- Today, raining, cold, dirty : the Men's wool 3 crew, a men's jetstream jacket.

And for all these activities : the men's active Sport Brief. Ok, it looks like it's a detail, but when it's getting cold, rainy, and dirty, or too hot, you'll appreciate to have your little things at ease :-).

To be honest, I have tested a lot of different things in different weather conditions. And still, after all these years, I love the Patagonia gear ! Efficient, well done !

Sliding Liberia

Sliding_liberia (Seen on thecleanestline)
The kind of surf trip which joins humanity, travel, surf, and happiness. Go have a look at the official website of "Sliding Liberia".
A lot of interesting things to read.
Is surf more than only a sport for young wealthy girls and boys ? Definitely yes. It looks as a cliche, but it changes your life forever.
Enjoy the movie and the site !

A week with Lynn Hill on the Cleanestline

While trying to motivate me doing some exercises this morning, I read some posts of the Cleanest line. And I noticed a sentence from Lynn Hill :

"The most important muscles in the body, besides the brain of course, are our abs – the center or core of the body"

Damned ! I hate doing exercise for the abs. But if Lynn says so, then I guess I should take care of that.
Here it is, I found my motivation for this morning !

Une belle brochette !

Cover_oct2007_tocFrom thecleanestline : Lance Armstrong, Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton, etc etc.
A full page of exceptional people, in several domains.
Lynn Hill cannot stop climbing everywhere, even on a chair :-)
Kelly has lost his sponsor, so he's looking for a new one able to offer him a pair of shoes and a shirt/
Lairs Hamilton is not that tall finally :-)

My Patagonia orders for this winter in Russia

Here is a selection of my Patagonia orders to face the cold winter coming quickly in Russia :
- Men's Nanuq Jacket
- Men's wooligan full zip cardigan.
- Men's long sleeved 6 R's message T-shirt.

Already cold and rainy here in Moscow. Far from the warmth of the indian summer. Fall is lasting 2 weeks here, and winter, almost 6 to 7 months.

brrrr ....

Aloha ! Patagonia, Gerry Lopez, and Hawaiian shirts

Having a certain number of Hawaiian shirts, I began to read some books about the Aloha spirit and Hawaiian shirts. The reference, I think, is the aloha shirt
Gerry Lopez speaks about the Aloha spirit and shirts on the Patagonia Web Site.

Books and universal conscious !

Strange feeling this morning that life is made of several feelings which, despite the deep impression that each people experience their own feelings, are exactly the same for everybody. Books tend to be the link showing that behind each story, different and unique for everybody, the life experience, love, hate, smile, courage, ... notions are  universal and universally shared.
To be honest, till few years I used to read "useful" books, that is to say, books in which you learn about a subject (politics, economy, surf ...). Very few romans.
Now, I take time to read pure useless books :-) and what stroke me is how parts of our life can be so well described in stories which look, at first, very far away from our daily life.

CRM - Blogs - True content (2)

There is a follow up ...
The funny thing, which almost always appear on blogs, is that, when people are criticizing the brand, when they speak about their bad experiences, you always have a lot of other people speaking about their good experiences.
Of course, this happens if the brand acts correctly, mentioning that effectively, sometimes they do mistake and without trying to avoid the conflict buy showing the brand is right, the customer is wrong.
The example of the comments of Mr or Mrs Very Unpleased is a good concrete business case for brands, marketers.
And good news for Patagonia, I am sure it will not harm their image, as everything is public, they did not hide the problem.
Looks like they managed it the right way.

CRM - Blogs - True content

All the brands are (were) afraid of opening a blog to talk more directly with the customers, the buyers, everybody. Usually, the main remarks from the big boss are : and what if ? What if someone writes bullshits, what if someone complains, what if ... ?
Usually the answer is : the community around the blog is the first moderator ! The people reading the blog are usually "pro" the brand and not "contra". Of course, sometimes, some people are coming on these websites just to mess around, and insert some "activity". So, usually, unless the brand does not manage the communication with straight clear speaches, everything goes fine.

This morning, I read on thecleanestline, a comment which criticizes Patagonia's CRM. Clear example which shows that Patagonia is a human organisation, which sometimes, makes mistakes, and cannot please everybody :-).
Let's follow up how Patagonia will react to this ...

Accident

Epistitle6ad For those who went through any accident, with this strange feeling that everything was so slow and so fast at the same time. Still wondering how their body found the strength, the reflex to react to this accident.
Read the dirtbag diaries : Anatomy of an accident

Much more stories, music and nice pics on the dirtbag diaries

It smells real

Reading this post  on the cleanest line, I thought : It smells real. This is a genuine post, done by someone real, and who expresses exactly the feelings of many other runners.
I share exactly the same views about running. And about the clothes to wash, effectively, it's a kind of problem for the environment. So when the clothes are not so dirty, but smells :-) I use some natural detergents : Washing nuts (noix de lavage)
That's a real eco alternative I think.

Cobian - Worldvision - Take action

Cobian launched an action :
When you purchase a pair of Y-Africa sandals, $2 goes directly to world vision.
I know which pair of new sandals I will purchase for this summer.
Good initiative.

More about Patagonia Wetsuits

Ss_wetsuit_mspring_01You may have noticed that the Patagonia wetsuits was, few months ago, a kind of mystery. Hard to find info about it. The only ressources (as far as I know) were rare.
Ali did a wonderful job with the unofficial Patagonia wetsuit website.
He mentionned the document available online here, which was given to me by Patagonia Europe's offices.
Now, you can find much more information about the Patagonia wetsuits on the Patagonia website, here.
You can see a full range of wetsuits (fullsuit, springsuit, ...). You can get  also more details about the products (see Common Features & Close-ups).

The only point is : WHERE CAN WE BUY THIS !!!????
Well, still at Cardiff's shop. Looks like this is the only place ... unfortunately :-(

May be if several surfers in Europe want to get the wetsuit, we can make a list, and send this to Patagonia Europe, so we will place one global order to get the wetsuit in Europe ?
If you are interested, send me an email at pierric.duthoit(at)wanadoo.fr or let a comment. I'll check with Patagonia Europe's offices what we can get.

Patagonia WetSuits in action

Top2_info_surf07 Check there, and also here, to see the Patagonia Wetsuits in action.
Since I have posted some documents about the Wetsuits, and since the unofficial patagoniawetsuit site has been created by Ali, it looks like many people are coming to this website and this blog to find information.
So, I keep on posting information about the wetsuit, each time I'll get some, and also keep on checking the Patagonia website and blog, to check if there is anything new.

The end weekend ...

CablesThis week-end marked the end of many things :
- I said goodbye to my old good car. This car was made for carrying longboards, shortboards, mountain bikes, friends, kids, sand, stones, wood, shoes, food ... An old good car. Too old for me, brand new for someone else. First time I drove this car to Biarritz it was in September 2001, just before 11/9.
- I said goodbye to 2 pair of shoes. My old Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR, and my Puma trailfox. So many kilometers with them, and the Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix race with the Salomon. The puma were specials too, because I bought them without thinking I would use this model so much. And finally I was attached to it.
Nostalgy, renewal, souvenirs, ... The end of something but not the beginning of something else, only the continuation, the next step.
Writing this, I just realize that effectively, yes, it's spring time, new flowers, sun shinning, and days longer, and without being conscious of this, I did like many animals, trees : I keep going on to the next steps, looking at the past with a smile.

Slippery when wet !

WetfloorslipperywhenwetWhile I was in Moscow last week, all my friends in France said that it was spring, the weather was great, etc etc
This week I am in France, and it's winter time ! Cold, wind, snow, rain ! Never mind, I'll keep training, whatever the weather is.
Saturday I managed to convince a friend to go running the "25 bosses" .
So, she picked me up sunday morning at 08h00, and we went to a departure point for the run. After one hour running, walking, climbing, the rain appeared. She was still motivated, but the tracks became tricky because of the rain. Many times it goes up and down on the boulders, and the rocks are slippery when wet.
Never mind, my runmate  kept smiling, despite a hard fall on the rocks, and we finally managed to run more than 12 hills. We came back to the car, and that was a 2h30 run. That's a real pleasure to run with someone smiling, and not complaining about the rain, the boulders, and all that. Moreover, when your runmate usually goes slower than you, it forces you to run at low heart rate, and it's good for long run training, plus, you help your friend doing something she would never achieved alone.
That was the first time since many months since I've been running the "25 bosses", and even with rain, it's always a great pleasure to run in these woods.
The good news also, is that the new knee I bought in duty free friday was working well on the hills, up and down ...
Conclusion of this run :
- I need to buy new trail shoes (mine are getting too old ...). From my point of view, the Salomon's are the best (grip, long lasting shoes, etc etc)
- The Patagonia wind tracker is fine for this kind of weather and for a 3 hours run (but now you may try the nine trails jacket)
- Energy bar are not as tasty as natural bananas, apples, and a good home made chocolate cake :-)
- The endurance pack is fine for the 25 bosses. But I think that for the UTMB, I'll keep the salomon one I used last year, as he is bigger and lighter for a 48 hours race.

Here is the run profile (using Polar Perfomance Software + AXN 500 watch) : 12_5_bosses

The new Spring Summer Patagonia collection !

Eclaircie You may have noticed it, spring is already there ... First flowers, and short dresses ...
And Patagonia released the Spring-Summer collection.
Some comments about the collection :

54% of the clothes have an eco-fiber inside : Organic coton, recycled polysester, etc
26% of the product line can be recycled.

Yosemite focus

YosemiteFor those who like to travel to Yosemite's park. Go have a look at the patagonia.com website.
There is a special page about Yosemite, with Videos, slideshows, and lists of books to read.
Spring is coming fast, and so better weather conditions to climb.
Enjoy your trip.

(note : I really like the Glenn Denny pictures ...)

Official Patagonia Blog

CleanestlineIt's official, Patagonia launched "the cleanestline" !
The official Patagonia Weblog :
"Weblog for the employees, friends and customers of the outdoor clothing company Patagonia."
The blog is using a Typepad platform. The trackbacks are not activated (Ithink they should open the trackbacks to help the Patagonia bloggers community grow). The contributors are mainly Patagonia employees now, may be they will open it to all Patagoniacs. We'll see.
Good luck to the Cleanestline.
And thanks to Tex for the info.

Vote for environment !

VotenviroWith Patagonia and Goodplanet.org, act now and Vote for environment.
Ok, this message comes a little bit late, as the campaign began in mid January 2007, but it's never too late to act.
You can have a look at the press release (in French), here :

Valentine's day Underwear !

Patagonia_wants_you On the 14th of Feb, it is the Famous VALENTINE'S DAY. You'll see on billboards in the cities a lot of nice beautiful women wearing underwear, to give nice (kinky) ideas to men and the kind of gift they can make.
Patagonia, as usual, goes another way. Instead of offering your girlfriend (boyfriend), wife, room mate, etc, underwear, take all their underwear and send them to Patagonia.
It's spring time and cleaning time !

PATAGONIA WANTS YOUR UNDERWEAR… … AND MUCH MORE !
PATAGONIA ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION OF GARMENT RECYCLING PROGRAM AND BEGINS RECYCLING COMPETITORS’ GARMENTS Patagonia, Inc., the outdoor gear and apparel company, announced yesterday the expansion of the Common Threads Recycling Program. This revolutionary program, which initially asked customers to return worn out Capilene baselayers to Patagonia, was launched in Europe in Fall 2006. Now it has been expanded to include any Patagonia used fleeces, any used Polartec-branded fleece garments from other companies, and Patagonia cotton tee shirts.

Concrete actions for a better planet !

VIVE KAILLOUX !!!

PubmaisThe famous brand "kailloux" is launching its new organic coton t-shirts !!!
As Romu says in its email, it is not a "marketing" move but something obvious to save the planet :-)
Hey, Romu, and if it helps selling more t-shirts, it's good too :-))
So go on the WEB 2.0 e-commerce website of Kailloux, and (if you need one), buy a nice T-shirt to go climbing

(made by climbers, for climbers)

It's Fashion !

Mooreaspot Yes, it's fashion to be ALTER, to be ECO, to be ALTER ECO, to be Ecologist, Environment fighter, etc etc.
In France, our political leaders and candidates passed their exams in front of Nicolas Hulot, to tell their ideas, engagements, for a better planet if they win the next french elections.
French people showed that with only 5 minutes of lights off, you can help the planet.
All this is good, of course, because we see that clearly, the message of Yvon Chouinard, and other enviro active people, since years, is finally reaching the conscious of everybody.
It isn't perfect yet but it's a good move.
The problem is that I see a dark side on this move. When something is fashion, then you have a lot of aftermaths which give the total contrary effect than the expected one. Take surfing for example. It's more and more "fashion" (yes, even Chanel is using surfboards to display its logo, ... beurk ). And so you have more and more people who are changing what was surf at the very beginning (read about these kind of changes the last text of "Vagues" with the great comparison between Da Cat (Dora) and Laird Hamilton).
So, when it's fashion, the message is displayed everywhere, but the initial meaning may be changed. And I am a little bit afraid that in our case, we will see effectively more politics involved in it, but not really because they care about our planet, but more because if they do not take actions, they may loose their power and influence ... And there is a high risk that some people will use the fashion words "alter", "eco", etc, just to be fashion.
Ok, it's a bit a pessimistic vision, but do not misinterpret my words, I support and encourage the decisions of the political leaders and the actions of Nicolas Hulot of course, but I hardly believe the words, and prefer to see results.

Nicolas said No !

Yousaidecology Today :
Beautiful waves.
L'abbe Pierre surfed his last one.
A cloud which looks like a dwarf hat.
And Nicolas Hulot said he will not be a candidate ... I just hope that he will keep fighting to let our political leaders take into account the ecology question on earth. When you look at the beach like on this picture, when you hear about a boat loosing dangerous products in the sea, when you look at the climate, you cannot afford to minimize the question of ecology in our economy and politics.

The North Face in Russia

ThenorthfaceHere is a picture of the advertisings which are on Tverskaya Street downtown Moscow !
I saw many of these here, to promote the places to buy the North Face equipement.
2 places are mentionned, one in the Extreme Center in the North of Moscow, and one in the Sport Hit center.
Will go have a look there as soon as I can.

Wetsuits again

Technology_home This is the season to speak about wetsuits, so let's do it ...
While reading the 70 percent blog, I saw the post about Matuse.
Impressive ... Seems to be really good and nice to wear while in the cold winter water !

Winter sessions - Winter lessons

WintersessionsWinter sessions, winter weather, cold temperatures, but good sessions.
And if after one session you cannot find your "little apparel" to make a stand up pee, here are some possible reasons :
- You definitevely  need to change your wetsuit for a Patagonia one. Warmer than your girlfriend ...
- The water is damned too cold
- Who did put Ice in the Ocean ?
- You need to stop surfing in Alaska
- You are a girl !So stop searching ... :-))

Patagonia WetSuit mystery

I've read on 70 percent a post about the Patagonia wetsuit. In this post, it is mentionned :

I estimate the guy has $400 or so in the wetsuit and $400 to $800 dollars of billable time in making the site. That’s either some serious brand loyalty or a very sneaky guerilla marketing campaign. Given Patagonia’s stellar reputation and the fact the the photos on the site are pretty bad, I’m going with the latter.

Well, I would like to clarify some points.
First of all, I am not an employee of Patagonia. I've been working years ago for Patagonia, as a consultant for Russia. Since then I only kept some very good contacts with some people inside the company, and this is true that I really like the brand, the products, the spirit etc etc. So, on my side, I am not doing any paid viral marketing.

Then, as far as I know, (but this can be easily validated by Ali) the website done by Ali, about the Patagonia wetsuit, has not been ordered by Patagonia, and is not inserted in any viral marketing campaign. You can see the comments Ali put on my blog .
To tell you the story of the post I've done about the Patagonia wetsuit, I received from Patagonia a mail about the award Patagonia received for this mail (because, as I told you, I kept good relations with Patagonia Europe). So I asked Patagonia Europe if I can receive more details and publish it on the blog. They sent me the PDF, and I wrote a post. That's it.
Only content publishing, and from my point of view, people who are ready to pay a little bit more some products, but they know the money will be partly used for the planet. Nothing really elaborated and calculated behind this. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask them on this blog.

The Patagonia websuit :-)

Wetsuit_patagoniaWhen looking at the statistics on this blog, I see that a lot of people are finding this blog using Google, and making queries on the Patagonia Wetsuit.
Ali posted a comment where he says :

"Thanks so much for this PDF with details of Patagonia's new wetsuit.  I ended up buying the suit [...]"

Well, you are welcome Ali, and thank you for the link to the Unofficial website about the Patagonia wetsuit. This is a really good initiative.
Nice pictures, and very good guide to show the product in details, with its efficiency.

After the patagonia wetsuit, we have the patagonia websuit :-))

Terre Papillon

Coupelle_2_1Manu, the creator of Terre Papillon openned a blog.
I already mentionned Terre Papillon on this blog, because when we speak about hand made designs, Terre Papillon is doing this exactly !
Each T-shirt is unique, painted by Manu, based on designs he did himself. He finds his own products, colors, shirts, ideas. Go have a look on his blog, and send him an email if you want to order some Tshirts. Even if you are in the US, in South America, in Spain, in Russia, ... DHL is everywhere :-))

Intervals

Pat_age_onia Running this morning in a small park in Moscow. Head on the OFF mode to make interval training. 10 times 300 m fast. Total training of 9 km. All the required equipment to be ok. Patagonia Capilene, Salomon shoes, Polar. The 21st century runner.
Then, I saw one small runner. (I mean smaller than me, so believe me he is not tall at all :-)).
He was doing interval training to. Coming near him, I observed him. 60 years old, shoes which were probably given by the USSR army in 1956, sweat shirt back from Olympic games in Moscow, and his automatic chronograph.
Intervals : Interval training, intervals between his generation and mine, between his equipment and mine.
But same training method. Despite the years, despite the cultural differences, despite our different personal stories.
That creates a  complicity, a smile on two faces. That's the strength of passion and running.

Recognition ...

Bretaland While looking at the stats of this blog, I saw in the sources a blog. It's always interesting to know how come people finally found you on the web, because, honestly, this is such a mess ... :-)
So I decided to go have a look at this blog. Here it is : the Woolard Speak.
And I saw that Andrew Woolard mentionned MY BLOG (yes, my blog :-))), as an example of consumer blog.

Two consumer-generated blogs that showcase brand culture so wonderfully they should make companies drool:
Patagoniacs
Moleskinerie (previously mentioned)

Firstly, thank you to Andrew to mention the patagoniacs blog. In someway it is always nice to get  a recognition :-)). Looking at his small resume, I understand that we have some common points, regarding Running for example.
Secondly, let me make a little focus about the story of this blog.
in 2003, a friend of mine told me about the blogs and the fantastic power of the blogs. At this time I had a blog I used mainly to publish pictures and small stories about my trip in Tahiti and other surf trips. That was much easier to tell people, look there, instead of sending 1 mail to many. But at this time, I was not convinced by the impact of blogs on people, brands, markets, politics.
Then after a trip in Central Asia, I decided to open a "real" blog. And as I had contacts with Patagonia, and as I am a Patagoniac (I'll explain why later), I openned this blog. The aim was between the marketing experience, the personal experience, learning about blog and how it can be helpful to people, brands, etc etc.
At the begining, the Patagoniac blog was about the brand, the actions, the products, and all the questions related to Patagonia (ecology, sports, ...). I was not very active, at this time (see the first posts in French). First steps, first experience about blogs. Of course at this time I told Patagonia about this blog. I never intended to squat any domain, or brand. No that was just an experience.
Then, after some days, some posts, I wrote this post about Blogs, introspection .. and I changed a little bit the editorial lines of the blog (wow, that looks serious ... :-))) But that was not to be more efficient, that was a personal need. I was booby trapped by the blogs :-))
That's in few lines the story, the evolution of this blog. Now, some posts are personal, hidden messages to the happy few, some posts are still speaking about what I like or love (surfing, running, environment). I would say that, now this is a "normal"  blog, the mirror of a part of my life, with up and downs, with good posts and bad posts. Normal life, but that does not mean not interesting life :-))
About the fact that I am a Patagoniac, some explanations. I discovered the brand while I was spending time in the Alps, skiing, snowboarding. And I looked at the products. They were really good (expensive yes, but good ;-)). I bought some. At this time I knew nothing about the hidden part of Patagonia (environment, 1% for the planet ...). I received some catalogs, and I was interested by the brand, the texts, the engagement. Moreover, the brand is involved in the sports I practise (Surf, ski, snowboarding, trail running, climbing ...) Few brands cover all these segments in fact, with the ability to stick to the same image, the same guidelines.
So I became a Patagoniac, because I really embraced the brand, its values, the engagement ...

(Picture scriptum : early morning the sun was shining in Moscow, then the clouds appear, and it's again a sunless day, so this picture will bring colors to this post and this day).

Surfers Journal and Yvon Chouinard

SurfersjournalIn the latest available issue of The Surfer's Journal in France there is an article about Yvon Chouinard and his book which is now available in French .

Yvon appeared several times in the Surfer's Journal. Sometimes on a picture, sometimes as a reference or a friend. He is always linked to his Brand, Patagonia, his fight for environment.

It's always good to know that some people are constant, keeping the same convictions for years, sure of their feelings, sure that what they do is right.

Time proves that since the begining, Yvon is right.
I really liked the Manifesto Yvon and Nora wrote for change this
Before Christmas time, and all our expenses to please everybody, remember that, flowers, services, and smiles, make every body happy.

Christmas time ...

It's christmas time and everybody is looking for ideas and gifts.
Well here are some, always tested and approved by your personal surfer blogger :
1- Books  (sorry, mainly in French, for the other in english, look in the right column of this blog):

"Lettres a prunelle" : If you have kids, a daughter for example, or if you still have a kid soul, which keeps you wise and happy, this book will be a good friend for every day.

"Journal d'Hirondelle" : Amelie Nothomb. If you like her books, you'll definitely love this one.

"Petite Philosophie du Surf": Tired of these empty DVD with always the same waves, tired of these books with picture of waves you will never ride, then take a break, and enter the Philosophy of surfing. Nice book to read between your winter sessions ...

2- DVD :

Good selection of Videos of surfing on www.surfhistory.com

3- Clothes, accessories :
I specially recommend the Micro Puff Pullover from Patagonia : A "must have" in winter ! Light, warm, efficient.
And many other clothes or accessories available on Patagonia.com.
Also if you want some nice allweather trail shoes, I recommend the Puma Trail fox and Salomon's shoes.

Our Future !

Top2_info_06kif_40_winksPatagonia Field reports are really interesting.
While I was looking at it, I found the 40 Winks one. And I saw this picture.
I love this picture. When you look at it you know why we all should take care of our planet ! For these eyes, their smiles.
KIDS !
That's the real thing we should always keep in mind.

Belinda's video on Patagonia.com

Enjoy !
Belinda's video on Patagonia.

I remember some interviews of Belinda in the Surfhistory.com podcasts. Nice lady, nice waves, nice surf.

I wish one day Patagonia will invite me to a surf session with all the nice Patagoniac ladies ... (Liz Clark, etc etc ...)

Thank you !

Coucher_de_soleil I wrote a post one month ago about Blogs, Introspection, ... At this time I decided to change a little bit the way to write on this blog. So I created some posts, more personal, I put some photo albums, I wrote about more subjects ...
I do not sell anything (the amazon links are just there to show you the books I like and I want to share, but looks lik you have already bought them because I did not received one Kopek :-))), but like everybody, I am human, and so, I was afraid of being wrong and see less and less people reading the blog. Because, finally, I see a blog as something you give to the other, and it is a pleasure to give, only if people like what they get :-))
I am proud, and glad to tell you that more and more people are reading this blog. Thanks to Google Analytics to track this. (NO I DO NOT TRY TO SPY YOU !! I just want to make you happy ...).
Some figures :
Visits : + 48% from Sept to Oct, and +75% from Oct to Nov.
I do not aim at being the first blogger in the world, no, I just want to be sure that all surfers, patagoniacs, friends (or foes :-)), ecowarriors, etc etc, will find here a place they like, a place they want to share altogether.
This blog is like a wave. It does not belong to only one person, it belongs to those who accept to read (ride) it altogether. That means you.
Once again, THANK YOU.

Gerry Lopez and Patagonia

GerryGerry Lopez, a famous Patagoniac, spoke last friday in the Patagonia store in Cardiff by the sea.
Parts of the Interview, there, on  70 percent
Always good to read, and listen the kind of guys who do what they think and think what they do.
Thanks to the piton for this info.
I especially like this :

On Shaping
Building surfboards has always been a great job for me. I got to build all the boards I wanted, and every now and then I get to build boards for guys like Keith (Malloy).

There are alot of changes going on in the industry… …molded boards made overseas… …back then we called them pop outs. The only guys riding them were paid to. The other guys riding them we called kooks.

…If you buy those boards it’s going to kill our industry, you’ll have guys making boards that don’t surf and don’t know anything about surfing.
