Nau way !

Thanks to Woolard blog. I discovered a brand in his posts. NAU. Look nice. And they say "not just another outdoor company"
Probably true, and good to see that such ideas are growing, in the same kind of spirit than Patagonia 30 years ago.
Good luck Nau.

VIVE KAILLOUX !!!

PubmaisThe famous brand "kailloux" is launching its new organic coton t-shirts !!!
As Romu says in its email, it is not a "marketing" move but something obvious to save the planet :-)
Hey, Romu, and if it helps selling more t-shirts, it's good too :-))
So go on the WEB 2.0 e-commerce website of Kailloux, and (if you need one), buy a nice T-shirt to go climbing

(made by climbers, for climbers)

Cold, cool, Fous ta cagoule !

When it's cold, when you want to avoid this hard cold strike on your forehead when the set is on you, when you are afraid of the wipeout because the water is too cold ... Then you have one solution :
FOUS TA CAGOULE ! !!!

The Patagonia websuit :-)

Wetsuit_patagoniaWhen looking at the statistics on this blog, I see that a lot of people are finding this blog using Google, and making queries on the Patagonia Wetsuit.
Ali posted a comment where he says :

"Thanks so much for this PDF with details of Patagonia's new wetsuit.  I ended up buying the suit [...]"

Well, you are welcome Ali, and thank you for the link to the Unofficial website about the Patagonia wetsuit. This is a really good initiative.
Nice pictures, and very good guide to show the product in details, with its efficiency.

After the patagonia wetsuit, we have the patagonia websuit :-))

The new Amelie Nothomb book "Journal d'hirondelle"
I liked many of her books, always a pleasure to read them, quick, intense. I really liked the sentence I quote in this post, that's what made me bought it.
I'll tell you more once I've finished to read it.

(ps : picture extracted from a "Flou artistique" period of my new artist life. I let my camera drives me among the different kinds of "artistic moments" the technology dictates me :-))

Christmas gifts : Surfing books

2 new books for surfers. 2 new books for Christmas.
Bend_to_baja Bend to Baja, THE BOOK, is now available. I mentionned the Bend To Baja trip there. And now the book is available. You can preorder it there.

Church_book

Then you have The Surfers Journal Shop which proposes a book from Ron Church.
Here is what is mentionned on TSJ web site.

Ron Church - California and Hawaii 1960/1965

Ron Church brought a trained photographer’s eye to the sport of surfing, which in itself was unusual. With his background in sport diving and underwater research photography combined with his La Jolla, California roots, he turned his attention to surfing just as the sport was beginning to morph from a sleepy but evocative pastime into a commercialized lifestyle. From 1960 into 1965 he captured its last moments of innocence, first in California, moving to Oahu’s big-wave fields, and then back to California. Graphic designer/bookmaker Tom Adler has been producing an acclaimed series of art books featuring surf photography (ie. “Don James, San Onofre to Point Dume, 1936-1941”, “SURFING PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE SEVENTIES TAKEN BY JEFF DIVINE), utilizing his own unique design sense to select offbeat images that seem to make magic by the time he arranges them on the pages. This, his second book from the files of Ron Church (The first being SURF CONTEST, published in early 2006) is a joint effort between The Journal and T. Adler Books.

Well done Patagonia team !

Let My People Go surfing in French

Let_my You may remember this post about Yvon's latest book ? Well, now, the book is available in French and there will be a press conference on the 6th of November in Paris about this book.
The translation of the title in French sounds a bit less funny I think, but still, it translates the spirit of Yvon.
Here are the french docs about this book :

Download the french first page and presentation

In France, this french version of the book is not available yet on Amazon and other internet websites, but you can order it directly to Patagonia or buy it in a Nature et Decouvertes shop.

The never do it again list (to be updated)

060714_170400Today is a new day. The kind of day you get up and say : I will never do mistakes again !
So here are some "never do it again" ...
- In tahiti (or anywhere else where you'll find sun, waves, monoi), do not forget to clean up the monoi on your body before going surfing. Your board will be a soap ...
- Do not try to go down a nice skate sloap very fast, in SLAPS. You'll loose your toes !
- Do not run the Courmayeur - Champex - Chamonix race again (to be checked in 10 months).
- do not run hard just after a good lunch ! really to hard for your belly !
- do not forget your surf boots when you go surfing on the coral and urchins ! you look like a rookie, but your feet will thank you ...
- never forget your warm jacket when you leave Paris in October and land in Moscow !
- ...

More to come later for sure ...

Change the world and Change this

You may have heard about CHANGE THIS. This is a very interesting website, with many manifestos.
I strongly recommend this one :Never the same !

Good luck Manu ...

Patagonia shows the way for RIP CURL ?

C20aebebeb07ce656f0dec1c3af4abd1 Thanks to THE PITON where I found the adress of this site.

On Pocket-lint I found an interesting article about Rip Curl.

Rip Curl Goes Green ! Rip Curl created the RipCurl Planet Label and shows its implication in environment. The products of this label are made of natural fabrics such as linen and bamboo.

After Patagonia and the choice of Organic Cotton, other brands are making the choice of ecology for their products.

Rip Curl presents a 100 per cent organic cotton T-shirt range. Organic cotton is a real alternative to conventional cotton, which is far from being as ecological as it seems.

The real question is : Do they do that to increase their sales and be more fashionable, or do they really believe the choice of organic coton and natural fibers will help the planet ? It looks like they really take care and take concrete actions

But the only way to really know is to wait 10 years and see if they 'll increase their use of organic cotton and if they engaged their company in a true ecological strategy.

But, I find that interesting and nice that such brands look concerned by our planet.
