Sport - Cities - Cost effectiveness
Patagonia used to have their European offices in Paris. Then they moved to Annecy. Closer to the mountains, closer to the sportsmen, closer to the reality of their business. It sounds strange if you look at the business in France, as a lot of people are saying that everything is in Paris for the business, but, finally, if you speak about sport, it looks like Paris is far away from it.
I already mentionned my feeling about the 20 km in Paris. Then I would like to add some points to complete my argument saying that Paris is not a city for sport.
1- Citadium : created 6 years ago in Paris, near the "grands magasins" of Paris. It was planned to be a temple dedicated to sports. Years after years, the street year was more and more dominant. Less running shoes, less technical materials, less vendors able to give you the right advices for your sport. I just learned today that the shop will definitely change its orientation in 2007, with fashion, streetwear, skateboard ... Due to search of rentability. I find it absolutely fine that a shop changes its orientation to be cost effective etc. The fact is that, definitely, a big good shop dedicated to sports do not really work in Paris. (smaller shops like Planete Jogging, endurance shop are doing fine)
2- Adidas and Nike shops on the famous Avenue "les Champs Elysees" : Trendy colors, young vendors, fashion music, and a lot of trendy clothes. Some technical corner, but mainly, these shops are done for fashion victims and not people who regularly practise sports.
Conclusion :
Sport is/looks fashion. Real sport is still reserved for some happy few :-)
Do not wonder why you have more and more people looking for new products for diet, new ways of getting muscles without sweating ... We are in a period of running, running after the time, and ideals nobody takes time to reach them the right way.
PS : (picture Scriptum) This picture was taken months ago, but could have been taken today. Same cold weather, same light, but also, so many differences and so many things changed, but the sun.
